About My Practice and How I Work

My in-person therapy practice is in Midtown Manhattan, but I also work with clients from across the New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut areas. Many clients work with me from all over the world via video conferencing on platforms such as Skype and Face Time.

I am a humanistic therapist and I use modalities such as cognitive and behavioral therapy, psychoanalytic therapy, DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), emotionally focused therapy combined with a good dose of common sense coming from years of living, loving, and struggling. I also do meditation with clients, which is particularly effective for anxiety and emotional absence and I encourage my clients to supplement psychotherapy with a life style including exercise, spiritual practices, and healthy eating.

Over the years people have come to see me for a vast array of issues and concerns. Below are some examples of the issues and concerns that I’ve helped clients address over the years.

Couples Therapy
If you feel your marriage, partnership, relationship with your significant other is falling apart; you may want to consider couples therapy. Relationship problems are so powerfully emotionally charged that they can easily consume an individual day and night. Unresolved conflicts containing an overabundance of pain, rage, fear, uncertainty and shame can, and will, interfere with a person’s ability to function in every other area of their lives. If you and your partner feel consumed by the unhappiness in what was once a joyful and satisfying relationship, you can benefit from couples therapy....Click Here To Read More

Family Estrangement Problems
I see many clients who’ve called me for help with family estrangement issues after reading my book, “Healing From Family Rifts.” I’ve worked with clients in my New York City office as well as worked with clients from as far away as Australia and Japan who are interested in my therapeutic work in this area. Sometimes I work with just 1 individual and sometimes with a couple or family....Click Here To Read More

Anxiety
Anxiety is part of life for many of us and the clients I’ve seen over the years range from those with mild to moderate anxiety (Generalized Anxiety Disorder) or full blown Panic Disorder, which can be crippling and terribly frightening when accompanied by Panic Attacks.

Anxiety is also present with most other problems. We see it accompanying depression, relationship problems, trauma, divorce, family conflict, and other psychological challenges for clients who’ve come to see me in my Midtown Manhattan office....Click Here To Read More

Anger Management
I’ve had quite a few clients identify their presenting problem as anger management, which manifests itself in close relationships, work relationships, and parenting. The major goal in treating this problem is to help clients put words and thoughts between their feelings and their actions.

Poor Self-Esteem
“I’m not good enough, smart enough, pretty or handsome enough, rich enough, and lacking in other qualities our society values. There are a multitude of reasons people have poor self-esteem including, for example, childhood trauma as well as not recognizing their inner qualities of self-worth.

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
People who’ve experienced trauma show a multitude of symptoms including flash backs to the traumatic event, panic attacks, phobias, and symptoms of depression and anxiety. Being a New York City based therapists, I worked with many clients suffering from PTSD, whether they escaped the burning towers, lost a friend or family member in the attacks, or were displaced from their homes near Ground Zero. I also work and continue to work with members of the Uniformed Services who were involved with rescue and recovery efforts and often remained traumatized years later.

Borderline and Narcissistic Personality Disorders and those who live with them.
I prefer not to use psychiatric jargon and group these personality disorders as problems of fragility, poor self-esteem, challenging close relationships, anger management and self-destructive behavior. These clients often struggle to function on a day-to-day basis and require a great deal of support, which is something I do between sessions, as needed.

Adolescent Issues
Adolescence is a tough time for kids and their parents. Believe me, I know having brought up four children and struggle with this phase of life that can be both exhilarating and awful for parent and adolescent. I work with teenagers struggling with separating from their families, establishing their own identities, and coping with the physical and hormonal changes that can be both challenging and exhilarating.
